Golden Gate Park be getting all crowded these days on annual 420 Day, so why not head on down to Noe Valley and light up at 4:20 PM at 420 Day Street instead?
The neighbors will welcome you interloping potheads with open arms. I’m sure!
Actually, Noe Valley is the locus of NIMBY – it’s filled with asshole millionaire homeowners and concomitant neighbor feuding.
Here it is, 420 Day, or close enough. Check out the comically large Planning Commission NOTICE OF HEARING notice on the front gate and the comically small recycling bin out front. (No black garbage can? A point of pride, I’m sure)

Oh, here we go, here’s real 420 Day, not too far from the Haight Street McDonalds on Stanyan.
That’s not fog, that’s a cloud of exhaled Mary Jane:

An excellent capture from world-famous Broke-Ass Stuart.
All right, Happy 420 Day 2013!

Open containers of alcohol, that is.
It looks exactly like this – note the bottle of Jack:

Oh, and there’s a “no smoking” law here as well, if you catch my drift, man.

All’s I’m saying is that the cops don’t enjoy this exercise neither.
So why not do as they want and just put your booze in a giveaway plastic water bottle?
Like this:

Now you’re protecting your juice AND making the cops happy.
This concludes What It Looks Like When “The Man” Patrols Golden Gate Park

Well, maybe not a tree, but how about a big old branch of a eucalyptus [See Comments] cypress(?) tree what’s stood in the Golden Gate Park for a century or so?
The branch comes down and hits this van, straight outta Indiana. So out pop two hippies, who just happened to be inside smoking weed.
The clear-headed one is all, “We gotta get out of here, man,” but the other one just couldn’t understand the urgency, he didn’t appreciate the danger.
See?

So they worked together to move the branch as much as they could and then sped away with a quickness. The SFPD showed up five minutes later to fix things so that the branch no longer blocked a lane of Fell during the evening drive.
(Later on, another nondescript white van took over the same space, which, as you can see, is just behind yet another nondescript white van. It’s like people from all over the country just decide to Go West, and then they end up in the 415…)
Actually, something in the Golden Gate Park Panhandle is probably falling next to some pot-smoking hippie pretty much all the time.
So let’s be careful out there.
And now, let’s remember the time when Gaia struck back at a forester, a Subaru Forester:

Ben Davis-wearing members of Laborer’s local 261 + giant Swedish buzz saws = problem quickly solved.

Excepting for Caroline’s Subie, that is.

The City crew failed to leave a note, but I think the driver will figure things out for herself after seeing the flat tires and all the sawdust.
Just another foggy day in Paradise…

As stated, as seen on Market Street, inbound:

The small dots are noise (due to an unnecessarily high ISO equivalence on an older camera) and the large dots are raindrops (due to an unnecessarily high shutter speed), so don’t click to expand.
Stay dry, Sugar Daddy Ken!

General Manager of Rec and Park Phil Ginsburg has some news about how San Francisco’s going to be killing weeds.
Check it:
“Last week, we unveiled our brand new Green Steam Machine, an eco-friendly alternative for weed control that eliminates the use of pesticides in and around children’s play areas. Purchased with help from the San Francisco Parks Trust, the Green Steam Machine is the first of its kind here in the United States and I can’t be more thrilled with the potential of this new machine. We are going to put one in every Park Services Area (PSA) around the city so that our gardeners and supervisors have regular access to this new machine.”

This machine certainly looks like it can kill weeds.

I’m not sure what it looked like at 420 Day Street in Noe Valley today, but I do know what it looked like on and around Hippie Hill in Golden Gate Park. It was packed for 4/20 Day celebrations.
Thousands turned out to consume marijuana, causing traffic gridlock* in the east end of the park.** (Hippies have lots of cars – did not know that.)
Broke Ass Stuart has a nice shot of the communal cloud, which could be smelled in the Panhandle.
Here’s part of the action, at around 4:20 PM:

See you next year.
*Perhaps MUNI could operate a special “420 service” from Civic Center BART every April 20th, maybe charge $4.20 one-way?
**A traffic light at the foot of eastbound JFK Drive at Kezar Drive certainly is called for, but doctrine mandates just having a stop sign.

I bet you’d love to have your very own smoking tent. One that’s large enough to be seen from outer space, right?
Well then you should envy California Governor Arnold Schwazenegger ’cause this beige smoking tent is all his.
As seen from the second floor of Sacramento’s Capitol Building. Click to expand:

Best of all, it’s been excluded from California’s new anti-smoking laws because, well, just because.
And if there’s the occasional flooding in our historic capitol due to all the fake plastic grass that’s been put down, well, that’s all right as well.
Here’s the bird’s eye view:

Happy smoking, Arnie!
Yes, whether it be cigars…

…or marijuana, like back in the day…

…happy smoking, Arnold!
Enjoy your tent.
