Russian Embassy Comes Out for Julian Davis for District Five Supervisor – Plus, Litter From Olague Workers

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

Here it is, up at the top of Alamo Square:

Tell me, who on Gaia’s Earth would think that dull-witted Christina Olague would be a good person to represent District Five? I mean, why would you pick a Run Ed Run chair to represent the district that so strongly favored John Avalos for Mayor just a short while ago?

Perhaps Christina Olague was picked by Ed Lee and Rose Pak to represent Ed Lee and Rose Pak? And now Willie Brown is on board as well?

Mmmm…

Now take a look here at what’s littering the Western Addition these days. That’s right, it’s Olague lit, routinely dumped by her workers.

This is what happens when a non-profit forces people to do work that they, fundamentally, don’t want to do:

They’ll dump their lit that you give them, that’s what they’ll do.

(Nobody said buying popularity would be easy, huh?)

Cf. the campaign of Julian Davis:

The volunteers for Julian actually seem to care.

Go figure.

The San Francisco Business Times Hosts Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton this AM – Praying for Ed Lee’s 49% Approval Rating

Friday, September 14th, 2012

(You know, praying that that percentage doesn’t drop too much further.)

Well, read the news and turn the pages. Here’s an recent ouchy from the HuffPo’s Aaron Sankin:

Ed Lee Approval Rating Drops: San Francisco Mayor’s Popularity Dips Below 50 Percent.

Whoops, how could that be?

Now let’s hear from Ron Russell of the Bay Area Observer. Just yesterday he pointed us to a couple things:

1. “Visa moving headquarters from San Francisco to Foster City

“…marks the departure of one of the best-known companies, with a global brand, from the city where it was born…”

2. “Gap moving workers to Pleasanton

“Social media companies and other tech companies are competing for space in San Francisco,” said Edward Del Beccaro, managing director with Transwestern Real Estate. “So other companies have to consider whether to renew their leases in San Francisco or look for other locations.”

Oh, and look at who else is leaving town. That’s right it’s the San Francisco 49ers:

Justin Herman Plaza, September 12th, 2012 - enjoy your weekend and then check out Homecoming 2012 this Sunday at 5:20 PM - this is a game you won’t want to miss – Detroit Lions. (I think I prefer the older uniforms, actually. Moving on…)

So, I’m struggling to understand how the City Family’s all-knowing, all-seeing Dear Leader Ed Lee, whose primary qualification for getting appointed appears to have been pleasing Willie Brown whether Willie Brown was doing something good or Willie Brown was doing something bad, is so obviously steering us in the right direction.

Will Twitter (the so-called “Mid-Market phenomenon”) ever employ 6000 souls in San Francisco? Hells no. So why do we base our planning around that prediction?

That’s the kind of thing I think about these days.

All right, enjoy your brekky at the Hilton, everybody, while I wonder who writes stuff like this:

“Cranes are in the air, office and residential towers are rising and San Francisco’s real estate market is red hot!”

“Join us for your tour of San Francisco’s future!”

Ooh, I have one too. It goes like:

“Let’s take the Golden State Warriors away from pathetic Oakland – It’s like stealing candy from a baby!”

Oh, and this:

“Let’s not talk about the failed America’s Cup anymore! At least not today.”

All right, back to “reality.” Here’s the invite. Enjoy:

MUNI Goes After the T-Shirts of a Harmless Local Blogger – The SFMTA Simply Can’t Manage Its Affairs

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

So Ed Reiskin went to Harvard so he could be a do-boy for Willie Brown / Gavin Newsom / Ed Lee?

It looks that way.

Hey, why isn’t the head of MUNI an elected position? Mmmm…

Anyway, here’s the latest. Our SFMTA / MUNI / DPT, speaking through the City Attorney’s Office, doesn’t like being made fun of, so they’re going after individual Zazzle T-shirt makers.

Read all about it here and here.

Via the N Judah Chronicles photostream

In related news, remember this one, about the MUNI* Death Spiral? Look to see who, along with Joe Eskenazi, wrote that.

In closing, MUNI sucks, even harder than you think.

*Man, the stuff hit the fan at MUNI after that bit came out. There was a big meeting presided over by the guy who preceded Ed Reiskin. Actually, that guy later claimed to have not even read that bit. Anyway, this epic meeting that never happened is now enshrined in local lore. Ask your favorite City Family member about it sometime.

D5 Supervisor Candidate Julian Davis to Star at Sunday Streets Western Addition, September 9th, 2012, 11AM to 4PM

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

I mean, I assume.

Leave us review:

If you voted for Ed Lee for Mayor, your choice for the next D5 Supervisor is London Breed.*

OTOH, if you voted against Ed Lee for Mayor, your choice for the next D5 Supervisor is Julian Davis. Throw in a couple other choices if you want, but make sure neither one is London Breed or Interim Supervisor and Total Sellout Christine Olague. (Or should I say Christine “8 Washington” Olague? Or should I say Christine “Perjurer Accomplice” Olague?)

Easy Peasy.

Come out and say hi to Julian, I’m sure he’ll be there, this Sunday:

Click to expand – it’ll become legible

Hey, is PG&E a “Sponsor” of this event, on September 9th, 2012, the two year anniversary of PG&E’s San Bruno Pipeline Explosion, the one that killed eight souls? I think so.

(I wish San Francisco had just an average kind of utility monopoly instead of motherfucking PG&E. Speaking of which,  a while back they inquired about how much it would cost to advertise some PR campaign on this tiny blog. I was like GTFO – I ignored it. Interestingly, presented with a similar offer, the San Francisco Bay Guardian said bring it, and so then PGE’s signature blue banner ads started appearing at SFBG.com, I’m seriously. Ah memories. )

Anyway, see you at Sunday Streets Western Addition 2012.

*I’m sure he’d be delighted to have her on board. Now, she’s a little PO’ed these days about how she kind of got screwed over by Interim Mayor Ed Lee earlier this year, oh and by Willie Brown and Rose Pak and all, but  I’m sure Mayor Lee and his minders would adapt to London’s election swimmingly. (Of course Ed Lie said he would stay out of this particular race and of course now he’s now picking sides in D5, you know, just a few months later, but he also said he wouldn’t run for Mayor. In fact that’s why he became Interim Mayor, based on that other promise. Hence the sobriquet Ed Lie.) Anyway, Republican billionaire Ron Conway threw her a few bucks a little while ago – that’s telling, IMO. Oh, and DiFi just endorsed her, and you can’t get any more Establishment than DiFi I don’t think.

Marina Times Editor-in-Chief Susan Dyer Reynolds Bans Comments on Her Wild BMW SUV vs. Bike Screed

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Am I missing something here? Susan Dyer Reynolds penned a piece last month, you know, about her little incident with a cyclist on Page Street but now all the comments about her behavior have been removed. There was a whole mess of them last I saw.

Oh well.

Let’s see here, who about town is known for banning comments? Well, struggling blogger Eve Batey of SFAppeal banned me (for life!) from making comments on her blog a while back, for politely correcting her about the price of the fare for the now-defunct CultureBus, stuff like that. (I was just trying to help her, you know. Oh well.) And corrupt Willie Brown / Ed Lee lackey Randy Shaw of Beyond Chron / Tenderloin Housing Clinic, he bans comments all the time. Why’s that? He wants to get $90-something million from the City and County of San Francisco so that he can improperly influence the government into … giving him $100,000,000 the next go-around and he doesn’t want people talking about that?

Those are the two I can think of off-hand.

Anyway, I don’t think SDR planned on getting the response she got.

Do you think she received a lot of support from her rich white lady friends? I don’t.

Do you think she got negative comments from her peers? I do.

Maybe she’s learned her lesson.

We’ll see.

OH MY. HERE COMES AN ACCOUNT FROM THE GREAT WHITE NORTH, SAN FRANCISCO’S MARINA DISTRICT. (THINK OF THE PLACE AS SAN FRANCISCO’S VERY OWN LITTLE SLICE OF MARIN COUNTY.)

LEAVE US BEGIN. TAKE IT AWAY, HELEN LOVEJOY / SUSAN DYER REYNOLDS:

Page Street has become the bane of my existence where bicyclists behaving badly are concerned.”

OK, LET’S CHECK THE WICKTIONARY, YOU KNOW, JUST TO BE SURE: “A cause of misery or death; an affliction or curse.” CAUSE, YOU KNOW, I STILL DON’T KNOW WTF YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT, EXCEPTING FOR YOU NOT LIKING BIKES ON PAGE STREET, WHICH, BTW, IS A FUNNY PLACE FOR A RICH WHITE LADY FROM THE MARINA TO BE HANGING OUT ON A REGULAR BASIS. BUT ANYWAY.

Driving home one recent afternoon, I stopped at a four-way sign, looked all directions, and proceeded into the intersection. Out of nowhere, a bicyclist flew through the stop sign to my left, riding right in front of me, forcing me to slam on the brakes.

UH, YOU LOOKED BUT YOU DIDN’T SEE. MMMM…. PERHAPS THE CYCLIST WAS SURPRISED THAT YOU ACTUALLY STOPPED. I’D RECOMMEND A CALIFORNIA STOP INSTEAD OF THE WAY THAT YOU STOP.

I came inches from hitting him, but he didn’t notice. As he pedaled along the right side of the street, I pulled up next to his rickety bike, rolled down my window, and said, “You have to stop at stop signs just like cars do.”

RICKETY? I THINK THAT’S MEANT AS AN INSULT? NOW ACTUALLY, RICH WHITE LADY, I THINK BIKES ARE GIVEN MORE LEEWAY IN SAN FRANCISCO THAN CARS. KEEP THAT IN MIND THE NEXT TIME YOU VENTURE INTO THE HAIGHTS.

The scrawny, pale, twenty-something with thinning curly dark hair – wearing only Bermuda shorts, a T-shirt and, of course, no helmet – flipped me off and shouted a string of expletives.

SCRAWNY, PALE, THINNING HAIR? MORE DEETS! WE GOTS TO HAVE MORE DEETS!

I felt my Sicilian blood boiling as I kept pace with him.

THIS IS WHAT SUPERVISOR JANE KIM CALLS “WHITE PRIVILEGE,” I MEAN, I’M JUST SAYING, RIGHT?

“Why is it you think you’re exempt from the law?” Suddenly and without warning, like the snake that he was, Curly whipped his head around and spit at me from the passenger side.

SNAKES WHIP THEIR HEADS AND SPIT? OK FINE, RWL.

I was in the process of rolling up the window, so his wad of spit didn’t hit me. Instead, it bubbled slowly down the window of my just-washed car.

JUST WASHED? KELL DOMAGE!

I kept pace with Curly, rolling the window down part way again. “What you just did qualifies as battery in the state of California,” I yelled, “and you should be arrested for road rage.”

UH, NOT REALLY.

Curly laughed and flipped me off with both hands as he steered the bike with his knees.

UH, IRL? I DON’T THINK SO.

“What are you going to do about it?” he asked smugly. Curly sped up and so did I, pulling in front of his bike, and trapping him between my SUV and the car parked next to him.

UH, I THINK YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TELL PEOPLE STUFF LIKE THIS? I MEAN, YOU”RE NOT SUPPOSED TO PUT THIS KIND OF A STATEMENT INTO A NEWSPAPER, NO MATTER HOW PODUNK / PICAYUNE IT IS.

As he came to a screeching halt, I rolled the window down a couple of inches. What color he had in his pale face drained and suddenly the smug smile was gone. “Are you crazy?” he asked, his voice shaking.

YOU GO GIRL! YOU GO, YOU CRAZY RICH WHITE GIRL!

Any ability I had to be rational went out my spit-covered window.

HE DROVE YOU TO IT! JUST LIKE IN THE BURNING BED!

“If I was crazy I would crush you like a bug right now,” I screamed. “Fortunately for you, I’m not crazy – but the next person you spit at might be and they could run you over or pull out a gun and shoot you.”

I’M SPEECHLESS.

Suddenly Curly was mute. Having made my point, and thinking maybe Curly learned his lesson, I rolled up the window and continued on my way home.

WOW, I THINK WE’RE GOING TO HAVE TO CUT THIS OFF. PICKING UP HERE:

More than ever, I believe it’s time to hold bicyclists accountable for their actions, and that means license numbers that are visible to cops, victims and witnesses – just like on the cars and motorcycles they share the streets with.

AND I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE PEDESTRIAN LICENSES – WHO’S WITH ME?

IN CLOSING, RICH WHITE LADY, YOU CRAY-CRAY.

AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY.

So the First Part of the America’s Cup is Almost Over and About 1000 People Have Watched It So Far?

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Work with me here, this is a bus ad seen yesterday:

Note that it doesn’t say “World Series race” or whatever. It says America’s Cup August 21st – 26th, 2012.

Was this thing broadcast on regular TV? I don’t think so. (Of course a small part of next year’s event will be on NBC, but only because NBC refused to pay a broadcast fee. San Francisco isn’t getting an event fee from Larry Ellison because he refused to pay one. And we’re on the hook for $30,000,000 to host this fiasco because why? Who approved this?)

Now there was live coverage on the Internet, but the worldwide audience was 195 souls when I checked during 2:00-4:00 PM prime-time yesterday. How many people have “crowded” the shore? A few hundreds?

And this is the start of the supposedly big event what’s supposedly bigger than all sporting events in the world bar the Summer Olympics and World Cup football? And this is the start of the supposedly big event what’s supposedly bigger than the Super Bowl and Euro soccer, you know, games where fans actually pay money to watch.

What if they gave an America’s Cup and nobody came? Because nobody cared.

Wouldn’t a renaissance festival in Golden Gate Park have a bigger “economic impact” than what we’re seeing from the America’s Cup? I think so.

Oh, but we won’t know because RPD, with its excessive fees for security guards / park rangers getting paid OT to sleep in their vehicles, chased the Golden Gate Renaissance Faire out of Golden Gate Park a few years back.

Why is the City Family so supportive of the America’s Cup and so against other types of events?

Oh, here we go, here’s a reporter actually reporting on the America’s Cup fiasco. (Note that this person works for the San Joser Mercury News…)

Oh, so per the SJMN, it was Louis Vuitton what insisted on absurdly-large catamarans for the America’s Cup 2013? Who allowed Louis Vuitton to be in charge of what happens in the 415?

True story: A few years back, a San Francisco Supervisor was telling people that God had San Francisco lose a Summer Olympics venue competition so that the America’s Cup 2013 could slot right in as a replacement. Yes, she thought that (well, anyway, she told people that she thought) Divine Providence was working through Larry Ellison to bring us AC34. I’m seriously.

Well, at least former Mayor Gavin Newsom was made Ambassador at Large or something, that’s kind of like being a real ambassador, I guess. But uh oh, this link doesn’t work anymore:

http://www.americascup.com/en/Latest/News/2011/1/Lieutenant-Governor-Newsom-to-Serve-As-Americas-Cup-Ambassador-at-Large/

Oh well.

Who’s to blame for this fiasco?

LONDON CALLING: London Breed Goes Off on Rose Pak and Willie Brown and Luke Thomas Gets It Verbatim

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

I think District Five Supervisor wannabee London Breed is still a little pissed off about not getting appointed Supervisor earlier this year, just a little:

You think I give a fuck about a Willie Brown at the end of the day when it comes to my community* and the shit that people like Rose Pak and Willie Brown continue to do and try to controls things.  They don’t fucking control me – you go ask them why wouldn’t you support London because she don’t do what the hell I tell her to do.  I don’t do what no motherfucking body tells me to do.”

Hey, you think maybe she’s been watching YouTube, just a little?

Hey, you know, the two times when Mayor Ed Lee did a little independent thinking since Willie Brown and Rose Pak got him appointed Mayor are when he appointed the fairly stupid Christina Olague to replace Ross Mirkarimi and when he advocated for the complete non-starter “stop and frisk program.”

Perhaps he should just do what he’s told 100% of the time instead of 90% of the time?

Proof That the “Mid-Market Renaissance” is Finally Complete: “Business Meeting Outside of Twitter”

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Via The Tens comes, Business Meeting Outside of Twitter.

The dude on the left is Ghiberti and I’m pretty sure that that’s Donatello in the blue cap.

You know, when I see all the “improvements” what have come to the Mid-Market since Willie Brown stooge Ed Lee worked to undo the tax signed into law by Willie Brown stooge Gavin Newsom in 2004,* I think, wow, how much better would things be in the Mid-Market if Mark Pincus had donated $100,000 to Mayor Ed Lee (you know, instead of just $50,000) so that the City and County of San Francisco would have then “invested” $3.5 million into Zynga (you know, instead of just $1.75 million).

In closing, please remember that all social problems can only be solved through investments in real estate.

*Yep.  Gavin Newsom the Tax Raiser, the Job Killer. It was a different era.

Another Salvo Against that “AutoReturn” Towing Company from One of Its “Victims,” Writer CW Nevius

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Here’s the latest anti-Auto Return bit from CW Nevius.

I don’t know, Neve, what do you want? It sounds like you want the City Family to fight harder for the Commonweal, to make better deals when it deals with private companies.

And that’s fine, but you’re a little inconsistent, you dig?

Speaking of digging, what about the corrupt Central Subway project? The last you wrote about that was all the way back in 2008. Why is it that you write about little fish like Auto Return but not big fish like, I don’t know, AECOM?

Oh what’s that, you actually think the Central Subway is a horrible execution of a bad idea but you don’t want to offend all your sources in the City Family? That’s pretty weak, Neve.

Or what about the America’s Cup boondoggle that you used to cheer lead for so much. Didn’t The City strike a bad deal with AC34?

And what about Recology? You seem to support that expensive monopoly and its dealings.

But that’s small potatoes compared with the deal San Francisco made with Auto Return?

What do you want, you want to get rid of the AutoReturn contract and then hire a bunch of expensive new City employees to tow cars? I guarantee you that that would cost SF more money.

Or maybe you want tow fees to be increased overall in order to subsidize police tows?

Or maybe you want revenge against the company what towed your ride last year, you know, when you were a naive newcomer in the 415?

I think that’s it!

We’ve made a lot of progress today, CW. Leave your check with my secretary on the way out…

Ah, mem’ries:

The Biggest Mistake That AutoReturn Towing Company Ever Made was Towing C.W. Nevius Earlier This Year

Right? ‘Cause after the car of C.W. Nevius got towed in February, he stepped up his campaign against AutoReturn, the company what gets called by DPT / SFMTA when your car is blocking rush hour traffic.

So nowadays, he considers San Francisco’s policy of towing away cars blocking rush hour lanes a “scam,” which means he thinks the whole process is a “fraudulent business scheme.”

Does he think that the SFMTA should just leave cars untouched, making all those “NO STOPPING, NO PARKING” signs merely advisory?

It’s not clear.

Oh well.

AutoReturn: Our name makes us sound like we’re a department of the SFPD – isn’t that funny? WERE UNDER UR FREEWAY, DETAINING UR CARZ:

Now, what the Auto Return tow truck driver should have done was make up some excuse instead of towing the ride of The Nevius on that Fateful Day. You know, “technical difficulties” or something like that to buy some more time for the San Francisco Chronicle’s least intelligent employee. That would have allowed the Neve to correct his mistake by simply hopping in and driving off to the East Bay or wherever the hell he lives these days.

It wouldn’t be hard to implement a NO TOW NEVIUS policy. You know, back in the day, Willie Brown used to get pulled over all the time by the CHP when he was driving waaaaay too fast* on the I-80 back and forth to Sacramento. After Willie got stopped twice in one trip, he put a hold on the CHP’s budget. So the CHP issued Willie’s photo to all the officers on I-80 with instructions to “memorize this face” in order to give Willie favorable treatment. (Read the whole story below.) The point is that AutoReturn should find which cars CW Nevius parks illegally on the Streets of San Francisco and then give a picture of each one to all their tow truck drivers and then tell them“DO NOT TOW THESE PARTICULAR CARS!”

Bingo bango.

“From UC Press E-Books Collection, 1982-2004 (formerly eScholarship Editions), it’s:

Willie Brown, A Biography by James Richardson

From four decades ago, Chapter 15, Mr. Chairman:

“One afternoon Brown briskly walked into a budget conference committee meeting late and looking angry. He immediately sat down next to [Senator] Collier and asked for a “point of personal privilege.” Collier granted him the courtesy, and Brown asked to return to an item in the budget to appropriate funds to purchase guns and other equipment for the California Highway Patrol. Brown then demanded that the funds be deleted from the budget. The trust between the two was so great that Collier asked no questions, immediately complied, and struck the CHP equipment appropriation.

At the end of the meeting, [aide Robert] Connelly asked his boss what was going on with the Highway  Patrol. “He was so mad, he wouldn’t talk about it.” Finally, Brown told Connelly that he had been stopped not once but twice by CHP officers that day on his way to Sacramento from San Francisco along Interstate 80 in his bright red Porsche. Each time, the officers walked over to Brown and said, “Hey, boy, where’d you get this car?”

Connelly quickly found the CHP’s lobbyist and told him what had happened. “The guy’s eyeballs rolled clear back into his skull. He said, ‘We’ll fix it.’” By the next morning, the CHP was distributing photographs of Willie Brown to officers along the Interstate 80 corridor between San Francisco and Sacramento with orders to “memorize this face.” The CHP got its appropriation back—and more.

Brown championed pay raises for CHP officers by authoring a bill that tied their salaries to a formula based on the salaries of large municipal police forces. The measure gave Highway Patrol officers a windfall raise, and then an automatic pay raise every time one of the unionized city forces got a new contract.”

*You’d see him go past as a red blur, hauling ass. He had a Porsche 911, a Mazda Miata (sold to him at a discount, you know, cause Willie is special), an Acura NSX (sold to him at a discount, per the instructions of Honda USA, you know, because Willie is special), and others.

For Some Reason, Willie Brown Needs More Money So This Part of Stockton St. is Shut Down for 5 Years

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

Is this what the busy intersection of Stockton and Market is going to look like for the next five years?

Apparently.

Click to expand – looking north from Market and Fourth Street.

Who would design a political system that would assign more power to a former Mayor than the current Mayor?

It’s a mystery…

Anyway, let’s hope the ridiculous three-way light setup at this intersection is now back to two-way light so Market Street traffic won’t be choked as much as it’s been up ’til now.
