SAN FRANCISCO (November 5, 2012) – Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square presented by Alaska Airlines will join the legion of proud Bay Area fans in celebrating the San Francisco Giants’ World Series sweep with Giants’ Pride Night on Thursday, November 8 from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The ice will be lit up in orange and fans are encouraged to come out in their favorite San Francisco Giants’ outfit for a fun night of celebration. The first 100 fans to arrive at the rink wearing Giants apparel will receive a complimentary skate admission for their guest that evening. General admission tickets are $10 and tickets for children eight years old and under are $6. Skate rentals are an additional $5. KMEL and KYLD will be at the ice rink between 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. that evening handing out custom Giants Champs placards.

The ice rink opens November 7 through to January 21, and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., with the exception of December 31, 2012 when it will close at 9:30 p.m.
Ticket prices:
General admission tickets are $10 and tickets for children eight years old and under are $6. Figure and hockey skate rentals are $5. Advance tickets go on sale Monday, October 15, 2012 at www.unionsquareicerink.com. Starting Wednesday, November 7, 2012 tickets will be available at the ice rink ticket window in Union Square. Since 2007, the Safeway Holiday Ice Rink has delighted children and adults with a holiday-themed ice park located in San Francisco’s Union Square. The Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA), in partnership with Caltrans and the City and County of San Francisco, has developed several design alternatives for a bicycle/pedestrian/maintenance path project on the West Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and will present these alternatives for public review and consideration at an informational open house on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m in the San Francisco County Transportation Authority Board Room, 100 Van Ness Avenue, 26th Floor, in San Francisco.
The open house will advance development of a Project Initiation Document (PID) for what is formally known as the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Bicycle Pedestrian Maintenance Path Project. The PID is intended to update the feasibility study performed in 2001. In addition to featuring design alternatives, the open house will outline key challenges and constraints, project costs, and the development process for the project. The public is invited to view project exhibits and talk with project team members. A presentation will be made at 6 p.m. and at 6:45 p.m. Please note the same presentation will be given at both times.
The proposed pathway project would extend the bicycle/pedestrian path already being constructed on the Bay Bridge’s new East Span by taking it around Yerba Buena Island and across the bridge’s West Span into San Francisco. In addition to providing a continuous bike/ped route from Oakland to San Francisco, the path project also would provide improved bridge access for Caltrans maintenance crews, thereby reducing maintenance closures on the bridge. Please note that these are preliminary designs and that funding for this project has not yet been identified.

If you move to that new city they’re building on sinking Treasure Island, your commute will take you from camera right onto the western span of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge and then right into SoMA.
On a good day, that would take like four minutes…
*Wow, a 30-second exposure, but there’s no good place to put a tripod except for the roadway. I’ve seen people hanging out taking photos close to here but they looked none too comfortable owing to the slope.

October 16th, 2011 will be on a Sunday so I’ll prolly be breakin’ in the malls, breakin’ on the streets, natch, but you, you’ve got kids, so you should head down to SoMA for Yerba Buena Family Day 2011.
It’s:
“…San Francisco’s biggest daylong family block party with free admission, special art activities and free performances for children and families at the following venues within 1 or 2 blocks of each other in the Yerba Buena arts district at 3rd Street and Mission Street in downtown San Francisco.”
